When I Fall

A constant sense of dread,

Insomnia-inducing thoughts in bed.

The “What If’s” that bog my mind,

False thoughts and pessimism that blind.

Imaginary weights on chest,

Racing heart with no rest.

Invisible chains that tie my wrists and ankles,

My mind is a prison with my body in shackles.

But then there is the silent calm,

When my face presses against your palm.

Tender touch brushes away my worry,

Soft voice telling me to stop saying “Sorry.”

It’ll be okay, you say on repeat,

As I am brought to my feet.

The horrible cycle of crippling doubt,

Going from happy to anguish-filled pout.

My knight who wields the shield of empathy,

Defends me against the monster called anxiety.

It’ll be okay,

It’ll be okay,

It’ll be okay,

You will say.

A warm light inside my chest grows,

It’ll be okay, my mind now knows.

      1. I started back in Sept of 2017 for a couple weeks, but life put blogging on pause. I finally got back to it late April of this year and try to post something every other day.
